Shevohu Nienu and Chetezo Akami have been unanimously elected as chairman and deputy chairman respectively of Phek Town Council (PTC).
The election of chairman and deputy chairman for PTC took place on July 9 at DC Office Phek and presided over by Phek deputy commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam. Shevohu Nienu was elected on Naga People’s Front (NPF) ticket from Jericho 1 Ward and Chetezo Akami also from NPF from Bethel Ward in the recently conducted ULB Election 2024.
Later, Nienu told The Morung Express that after his election as chairman, the first meeting of PTC was held today and it resolved to initiate mass tree plantation drive under the banner “One Man One Tree” within PTC jurisdiction to combat global warming. In this regard, necessary procedure will be notified soon, he said. For his election as chairman, Nienu thanked DC Phek and his subordinate officers and all the PTC councillors. To carry forward huge responsibility, Nienu vowed to keep his words, abide by the Constitution of India and to maintain transparency and accountability.” Let my action be the expression of my promises, he said.
Thanking all the elected councillors of PTC, NPF president Apong Pongener, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and leader NPF Legislature Party, NPF Party ranks and files, he also specifically expressed gratitude to Jericho 1 Ward members for enabling him to reach the position of chairman.
Nienu declared that his entry into town council is not for self benefit or gain authority or facility “but with a vision and desire to make a significant contribution and to elevate our community and town as a whole.”
