The condition of the main road which connects Wokha town to the district hospital

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): In what will come as a shock to many people, the pitiable condition of road connectivity in Wokha District Headquarter has been brought to light by a local NGO called Team Metamorphosis. A press write-up issued by its Chief Thungdemo Kyong has revealed in particular the condition of the main road which connects Wokha town to the district hospital.

Asking whether the people of Wokha town who are in need of medical attention have to suffer because of the government’s negligence, the press note pointed to the fact that sometimes certain cases are so serious and in need of immediate medical treatment but human life is often compromised.

“Wokha town, the district headquarter also has a district hospital like the rest of the districts, but what good will the hospital do if the road which leads to it is not accessible? Who are responsible for all these? Most of the time, it is the citizens who are doing most of the maintenance works. What are the departments for? What are their actual works? Why are they paid? Why has the government appointed officers and staffs?” were haunting questions raised by the local NGO.

Wondering as to who will come to their rescue, Team Metamorphosis went on to inform that last year, members of the nearby colonies had constructed this bridge contributing in cash and in kind because of vehicles could ply on it till this wooden bridge fell down a few days ago. Stating that the hospital authorities or the neighboring colonies cannot forever do the duty of the government, the press note questioned as to where all the money which is being sanctioned for the maintenance of all these vulnerable facilities go.

Stating that people have suffered enough and the roads and bridges in pathetic conditions, the government was told to speak up as to who should be responsible for the maintenance of public properties. “The public have been good and have been responsible (at many instances public have not waited upon the government for the maintenance of public facilities)”. It was also stated that the public at their own expense have repaired roads, bridges and that Team Metamorphosis had even “cleaned the hospitals (even the dirtiest toilets)”.
