Kohima, February 18 (MExN): While the power infrastructure in Nagaland has seen significant upgrades in recent times, the state Department of Power has been incurring heavy losses due to lack of various factors including shortage of workforce.
Addressing the general conference of Association of Power Engineers Nagaland (APEN) on Friday, its President Er Penrithung highlighted various issues concerning the Department of power.
Yanthan pointed out that many new substations, transmission lines, sub-transmission and distribution lines have been set up but without any increase in manpower. He said that the Department has been incurring heavy losses commercially and technically, due to shortage of manpower posing a challenge to the Department, a press release from the power department stated.
Yanthan is said to have elaborated that installation of prepaid meter was a major activity of the Department which will move towards conservation of energy and do away with non-receipt of electricity bill and delivery of wrong and erroneous bills. He urged the members to spread the message on the importance and benefits of installing prepaid meters.
The president also stressed on the importance of setting up renewable power project in the State, “as out of a demand of 200 MW, only 27 MW is from own generation.”
Meanwhile, he stated earlier that the workforce of the Department led by Power Engineers were the undesignated frontline workers when the entire state was forced indoors during the pandemic. “When everyone stayed indoors, the Power Department workforce rose to the occasion with courage and gave their selfless service to the people of the State,” he said.
Reminding the gathering that the golden jubilee of Department would be held in two years, he expressed hope it would be a celebration of achievements and not simply a celebration of 50 years of its existence.
In his speech, Er Moa Aier, the CE (D&R) encouraged the members to be resilient even though the Department is posed with various challenges and to respond by means of improvement in performance.
Er Nribemo Mozhui, Engineer-in-Chief, Power also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the achievements of APEN while lauding the members for being efficient and coming up with solutions to any kind of problem.
