Shortage of teachers hit govt schools in Longleng

Out of existing 15 GHS in the district, seven functioning without Maths teacher, 10 without English teacher, two without Science teacher and five with Nil Hindi teacher

Longleng, November 11 (MExN): Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner & Vice Chairman DPDB, Dharam Raj IAS at DPDB hall, Longleng on November 10. 

While presenting the agendas for approval of teachers and fourth grade staffs in the GHS and GMS in the district, a DIPR report stated that Sr SDEO & DEO incharge Longleng, Yahuto Kath highlighted the grievances faced by the government schools in the district due to shortage of teachers.

He informed that out of the existing 15 GHS in Longleng seven GHS are functioning without Maths teachers, 10 GHS without English teacher, two GHS without Science teacher and five GHS with Nil Hindi teacher. 

He apprised the members that as per the standard criteria of the school, the actual requirement of teachers in these 15 GHS is 21 Maths Teachers, 17 Science Teachers, 10 English Teachers and 11 Hindi Graduate Teachers. He also informed that 18 GMS in the district do not have fourth grade staff and suggested for post creations. 

Asserting “we cannot expect good results without teachers,” he said “shortage of major subject teachers is directly affecting the students’ performance in the HSLC examination.”

Supplementing to Sr SDEO, the DC Longleng lamented that with such situations the grievances of the government schools in the district will go on unless the government comes up with a new policy to redress the issues.

“With absences of Maths and Science Teachers we cannot expect our students becoming Maths and Science Teachers in the future. So the problems will go on until a decision is taken up at the higher level,” he added.

After deliberations on the issues, the house forwarded the approval of teacher's requirements and creation of fourth grade staff of the schools. 

The house also forwarded for granted in aid to Good Shepherd School, Longleng.

Chingmei, EAC Sadar highlighted on Chief Minister' Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and setting up of registration centres for enrolment of government employees and beneficiaries under CMHIS.

The SDO civil Longleng informed regarding conduct of inter department sports events in the district, collection of membership fees for Officer's Club and appointment of president of the club. Accordingly the board constituted a five-member executive committee for selection of president for Officer's club.

Earlier, DC Longleng informed that Sr Superintendent of Police and Chief Medical Officer of Longleng are transferring out from the district and acknowledged the contribution made by the outgoing senior officers during their stay in the district.

The departmental activity was presented by the CDPO, Longleng. T Longlang Luckpan on behalf of the Social Welfare Department. The CMO Longleng will present the activities of his department in the next meeting.
