Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): The Speaker of the apex Sumi Kiphimi Kukhakulu (All Sumi Students’ Union), who was shot on May 2 outside Breeze Restaurant in Dimapur, is said to be out of danger. The SKK Speaker, Benito Swu was shot in the neck and was airlifted to Guwahati Neurological Centre. The same evening, he underwent surgery on May 8, the union’s General Secretary of SKK Mughato informed.

The bullet has been removed and the victim has regained consciousness. However, Benito is still said to be incapable of moving or feeling any sensation; he is able to make slight conversations with people though. The other victim, Atoka N Chopy, advisor to the Kiphire Sumi Students’ Union is also said to be recovering but may have to be hospitalized for another two weeks.

Following the incident which took place in broad daylight, the “GPRN/NSCN” claimed responsibility, terming it a case of “mistaken identity” and had apologized for the same. Consequently, SKK served an ‘ultimatum’ to the Naga group to hand over the cadres responsible for the shooting, by May 11. Thereafter, the SKK will be informed of the group’s decision, SKK said. Nonetheless, the students’ body said it will still abide by its original stance in the ultimatum it served to the Naga armed faction, to hand over the perpetrators.
