Kohima, April 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has stated that Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu becoming Chief Minister “is the manifestation of leadership deficit in both NPF-BJP” as there was no other suitable candidate among 59 sitting legislators to replace TR Zeliang. In a reply to the CMO Media Cell, the NPCC argued that the CMO’s statement on Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie “making supreme sacrifice” in contesting as Independent candidate during 1999 parliamentary elections to salvage and regain the frozen party symbol (Cock) by ECI “does not make sense”. Dr Shurhozelie’s position as Chief Minister “will only be legitimized in the eyes of the people if he is able to successfully contest by-elections within the next few months,” a statement from the Media Cell, NPCC stated. “Otherwise he will always be known as ‘Default CM’,” it added.
