Shurhozelie responds to Congress’ communal charges

Kohima, April 6 (MExN): Responding to Congress’ repeated communal charges against DAN government on ground of the latter’s association with BJP, NPF president and DAN chairman, Shurhozelie Liezietsu has stated that DAN is a conglomeration of BJP, JD (U) and all non-congress political parties in Nagaland. BJP has been a constituent partner of DAN since 2003.

In a press statement, the DAN chairman alleged that Congress leaders in Nagaland are all the time angry with NPF “because of their crushing defeat in the last general election, not realizing that they themselves have destroyed their own house to a great extent for infighting.” During the last tenure, Shurhozelie said, he had directed the two MPs from Nagaland to give issue based support to UPA at the Centre. “But, I find that UPA leaders were most ungrateful creatures because they have, in spite of thanking us, mistreated us badly by way of even cutting down the Plan money for Nagaland at the behest of the Nagaland Congress leaders.” He declared it was high time for the Congress to realize that Naga people have rejected them.

Stating that DAN cannot isolate any political party, he said all non-congress political parties in Nagaland will continue to work together as a team. “Every day, we welcome even the congress leaders who come over to us to make the regional base stronger.”

Further, Shurhozelie expressed it was “touched when congress leaders have shown their concern for the safety and security of the Christians in Nagaland. It is our sincere wish that this state, of their mind may continue to remain even after election.” As for “us”, he stated, “our conscience is clear because our association with BJP as an important constituent unit of DAN for the last 11 years have shown that there was not a single instance of threat meted out to any section of the people in any manner which the people themselves have seen.” Nagaland, being a Christian dominated State has been enjoying complete freedom of worship where members of DAN also have been participating in all activities with the Church, he added.

The DAN chairman affirmed that UPA government will continue to remain in office for little more than a month from now “as lame dog’ and after that the era will come to an end. “They have failed to take up the Naga political issue. They have failed to give Nagaland its due share in economic development.”
