Shutdown cripples Manipur valley

Imphal, July 20 (NNN): A 13-hour state wide shutdown call given by the Kangleipak Communist Party-Poirei Meitei Lup on Wednesday crippled normal life in the Manipur valley. The strike was in protest against a number of anomalies in appointing two professors of the state run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.   The outfit has demanded the hospital authority dismiss the two professors including L Deben who is currently holding the post of director of JNIMS. Khairamband Keithel, Paona bazaar and Thangal bazaar, the main markets in the Imphal city remained shut due to the strike which began at 5am. Vehicles were off the road in the four valley districts. The bandh did not affect life in the hill districts.
