Dimapur, February 17 (MExN): Signal Angami Village under Dimapur district commemorated its 80th Foundation day today at the village panchayal hall with Dr Kechongol Sophie, Chief Medical Officer, Mon as the main speaker on the topic 'Towards Unity & Progress.'


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sophie encouraged people to contribute ideas and materials towards the needs of the village by taking a good example of Changlangshu villagers under Mon district who made their health center as the best PHC in Mon district by their voluntary contribution with a little help from the state government and a NGO. He also emphasized the need to develop Children's Parks and marketing sheds in the villages in Nagaland.


Narrating the difficult times during the establishment of the new village due to unfavorable climatic and political situation, village chairman, Keneichosul Sophie paid tribute to the founding members of the village. He said that the during the pre Indian Independence period under British impire, a British Signal Company was stationed here in the village, this is how the name of the place came about. Later it was rechristened as Signal Mikhir and thereafter Signal Angami on February 17, 1968.


Amongst the prominent citizens in the village, Nyemli Phom, former MLA and Limameren, Retired Director, Soil & Water Conservation exhorted the gathering and Signal Angami Women presented a special number. The program was conducted by NT Thamlong Phom, GB and the Village council member Er Sashi Longkumer delivered the welcome address while K Bao Tetso, VDB Secretary pronounced the vote of thanks.
The day was marked by mass feast after the function.
