Dimapur, February 5 (MExN): The signatories of “Agreed Position” from the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) have reiterated their commitment and affirmed to stand and protect the “historical agreement.”
The “Agreed Position” was signed between the Government of India (GoI) and WC, NNPGs on November 17, 2017 and the latter reiterated the same during an emergency meeting held February 5, stated a press release received here.
The release, appended by N Kitovi Zhimomi Convener, WC NNPGS and Co-Conveners Kiumukam, Toshi Walling and Shitoho Chophi also declared “commitment to protect and safeguard the ‘Agreed Position’” and to stand firm to defend the same from “all elements that try to destroy the historic Agreement.”
To this end, in another statement, the WC “advised” Civil societies especially religious leaders not to “jump into Indo Naga political issues at this crucial juncture by taking the name of the Almighty God but constantly pray for permanent peace and harmony in Nagaland and Naga family wherever they are.”
“In order to amicably solve the long-awaited issues, we hereby declare we are committed and will protect the same historical agreement which has been signed by ourselves with the Govt of India,” the release added.
The development is the latest in the ongoing contestation between the two sides concerning representation of the WC, NNPGs.
