Kohima, March 21 (MExN): A Financial Literacy Programme was held on March 20 at Nerhe Model village and Teichüma village respectively organized by Poorna Shakti Kendra in collaboration with Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB), NMDFC and SRCW supported under FIF, NABARD.
J.K Shimray, Senior Branch Manager, Bank of Baroda, who was the resource person, shared the significance of banking and stressed on the importance of maintaining a family budget. He asked the womenfolk to maintain a proper household budget which will have a great impact on their financial lives. Budgeting, Shimray stated, helps the family members to spend responsibly and be accounted for every penny spent, according to a press release.
He also spoke on few social security schemes like Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Suraksha Yojana (PMJSY) etc., which he said will secure the financial future of the family and also result in improvement of the quality of life. The resource person further spoke on the Self Help Group and challenged the women to change their mentality of only relying on subsidy from the Government when they are blessed with all the available resources in the village. Citing examples of various successful stories of some SHGs in the country, he said by providing fund to increase investment in agriculture to raise productivity will improve the quality of agricultural products and will ultimately increase farmers’ income.
Vekhwusalü Dawhuo, NSSWB, introduced the Joint Liability Group (JLG), which is a concept under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide institutional credit to small farmers. She briefed about its features and necessary requirement to form a Group and avail loan from the bank. She also spoke on the importance of digital payment and cited some of the benefits like keeping one aware of what is happening in their bank account through the new cashless policy. Dawhuo also said that with the digital payment almost all the banking facilities can be availed through digital media from home and likewise people from the village can access same functions as urban people do.
Keduokhonuo Belho of 181 spoke on Women Hepline 181, One stop Center and Childine-1098. She shared on how the Women Helpline181 came into being and why the present society needs to be aware of the helpline. She also highlighted that these helpline numbers work 24/7 and are toll free.
Earlier, Ajabu Tungoe, District Coordinator, PSK, NSSWB chaired the programme and gave a brief introduction on the purpose of conducting the programme.
