Signing up to make Nagaland safe for children

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) with the support of National Domestic Workers Movement and NDWM- Child Right Movement celebrated World day against Child Labour on June 12.  

The day heightened the message that a child should get all the protection and care needed for their overall development which is sole responsibility of every individual. As a response the participants joined the signature campaign against child labour “I sign up for making Nagaland safe for children”.  

It was stated in a press release that Sr. Pramila, State Coordinator for National Domestic Workers Movement–Nagaland Region expressed her concerns to raise a voice against child labour and to campaign for the healthy and safe generation.  

The main speaker, Subonenba Longkumer, Director CECS/Nodal Director CHILDLINE Nagaland enlightened the gathering on the protection of children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012, since the participants are teachers from different schools, he urged the teachers to take sole responsibility in protecting the children from all types of abuses.  

In the second session, Zuchumbeni Panel Lawyer from District Legal Services Authority made very clear regarding the Child Labour Act.  

Chief guest W. Tamwang Konyak stressed upon the cause of child labour and the issues faced by them. Child labour is a global issue. Poverty could be the main reason for it. The guest of honour Rev. Sr. Mary CJ expressed her concern for children who are found here in Dimapur who are brought down in the name of education but end up doing domestic help. She made her speech very clear giving example how children are treated.  

As a part of the campaign, Aobendang and Grace Gonmei, NDWM staff enlightened the students from both Assisi Higher Secondary School morning section and evening section on the Rights of the children and need for care and protection.
