Guwahati, January 6 (MExN): The passenger train service between Silchar-Jiribam was re-introduced with extension till Vangaichungpao in Manipur on January 5.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh and Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the services remotely through video link from Imphal on Wednesday.
The duo had earlier conducted a joint aerial inspection of ongoing railway new line project connecting the capital state of Imphal with rest of India.
As per an official statement from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the services up to Vangaichungpao was extended along with increase in frequency from bi-weekly to daily.
From January 6, the train will start daily from Silchar daily at 4PM to reach Vangaichungpao at 7:15PM.
On its retuned journey, the train will leave Vangaichungpao at 7:15AM to reach Silchar at 10:40AM.
Better connectivity with Silchar (nearest big city) will help people to fulfil their needs of better medical, educational facilities as well as railway and air connectivity to all major cities of the country and travel time for the people of Manipur will be reduced by 10-12 hours, the NFR statement added.
Gomtinagar-Kamakhya special train flags off
Meanwhile, Vaishnaw on January 6, flagged off a special train enabling direct rail connectivity between Gomtinagar in Uttar Pradesh and Kamakhya in Assam.
The regular services of train No. 15078/15077 Gomtinagar – Kamakhya - Gomtinagar weekly express will resume from Gomtinagar on January 10 and from Kamakhya on January 11, the NFR said.
The train from Gomtinagar will leave at 10AM every Monday to reach Kamakhya at 3:30 PM the next day.
In return direction, train will leave Kamakhya at 6:30 PM every Tuesday to reach Gomtinagar at 1:40 AM on the third day.
The train will have stoppages at Gorakhpur, Barauni, New Jalpaiguri, New Coochbehar, New Bongaigaon and Goalpara on both ways and have AC- 2 tier, AC- 3 tier, sleeper class and second class coaches for passengers.
It was further informed that details of timings and stoppages of the trains are also available on IRCTC website and are also being notified in various newspapers and on social media platforms of NFR.
