SEYOCHUNG, APRIL 16 (MExN): The Seyochung Village Students' Union (SVSU), in collaboration with Government High School Seyochung Village organized a cleanliness drive at Singtra Valley on April 16, 2025.

Students from the school actively participated in the initiative by collecting plastic and other waste materials from the valley. All collected waste was properly disposed of at a designated site.

Following the drive, a short program was held where SVSU President Longtili C. Sangtam expressed gratitude to the students and school authorities for their support and participation. He also delivered a brief awareness speech highlighting the harmful effects of plastic on the environment.

During the program, the SVSU President officially declared Singtra Valley a Plastic-Free Zone and announced a ban on single-use plastics, including straws, plastic plates, cups, carry bags, and water bottles. He encouraged the public to adopt alternatives such as cloth or jute bags, paper straws, and reusable containers and bottles.

To support this initiative, the union will install separate bins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and will promote composting of organic materials. Posters advocating for plastic-free alternatives will also be displayed around the area. The union urged all visitors to cooperate in maintaining Singtra Valley as a clean and plastic-free environment.

President Longtili specially thanked Khumkise Sangtam, Youth Pastor of Seyochung Village Baptist Church for participating in the drive. He also acknowledged the presence of former SVSU President Longlumse L. and former Library Secretary Threjong. Longlumse L. appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to minimize plastic use in their daily lives.
