Six talented artists in state have been conferred with the prestigious Governor’s Awards here today for their commendable contribution in the fields of art, music and literature. An added delight to the recipients was the introduction of cash component in the awards amounting to Rs. 25,000 each from this year.
The recipient of the awards for the year 2007 included T. Sentimar Ozukum- Art, Kazhumo Noudi- Art, Nise Meruno- Music, Vivee Kenilino Peseyie- Music, S. Yangchu Chang- Music and Rev. Dr. Ezamo Murry- Literature.
“The art market in the country is thriving and it is possible for a good artist to derive substantial economic benefit out of his or her work” said Governor K. Sankaranarayanan at the impressive awards function at Raj Bhavan. Pleased by honouring six talented artists, the Governor said “The Nagas have a natural flair for arts. I have no doubt that in the years to come we will discover many more deserving and talented artists.”
Also expressing happiness to see talented artists in the state, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio assured that the government will extend all possible support to strengthen their talents.
Congratulating the recipients, Rio was hopeful that they will continue to excel in the respective areas of talents. The cash component felt important on the consideration of the fact that the award is intended not only for recognition of achievements but also to encourage and to facilitate further creative ventures by the artists, according to the State Level Committee.
“Institution of Governor’ Awards has been indeed a great thrust for promotion of the artistic talents in the state,” maintained Kevinino P. Meru, Director, Art & Culture. She was optimistic that the Governor’s Awards “will continue to inspire our people to attain greater heights in the field of art, music and literature through the years to come.”
Mentionably, with a view to nurture talents in the fields of arts, music and literature in the state, the “Governor’s Awards for distinction in the fields of art, music and literature” was instituted in 2003 which confer on every Independence Day at Raj Bhavan, Kohima. The function concluded with vote of thanks offered by Chief Secretary Lalhuma, IAS.
