Six-point resolution passed to maintain peace in Dimapur

Delhi told not to instigate division among Nagas

In a serious effort to prevent factional clashes between the NSCN factions in and around Dimapur, the Naga Council today held a special emergency meeting involving tribal hohos, district and police administration, Dimapur Municipal Council, Church, women and students groups, public leaders and concerned citizens. Today’s crucial meeting came in the wake of a spate of armed clashes mostly involving the two NSCN groups and reports of an impending flash point between the two warring groups here in the commercial hub. With reports of the NSCN (K) entering the stronghold of its rival NSCN (IM) at Dimapur this had added to the tension and fear among citizens. 

As an outcome of the meeting, the house came to a six-point resolution after hours of discussion and deliberation on the prevailing situation. The sitting resolved to appeal to all the factions to observe peace and honour the people’s desire for peace and to desist from armed conflicts particularly in populated and public areas. 

The public meeting while urging the Government of India to strictly implement the Ceasefire Ground Rules entered with the various factions, also asked the Ceasefire Monitoring Group to make public the Ground Rules through the local print media for awareness and information of the citizens. 

With reference to the on-going peace process, the general public expressed that the government of India must expedite the talks and conclude with an honourable and acceptable solution to the long-drawn Indo-Naga problem.     

Any recurrence of criminal acts committed by any particular faction or factions, involving injuries or death of innocent civilians will invite public wrath and the public shall distance itself with that particular group responsible, the meeting echoed. 

The meeting convened by the Naga Council Dimapur further asked the government of India to totally desist from instigating or encouraging different groups with an aim of creating division among the Nagas. Further, to avoid any untoward incident the assembled public encouraged the district law keeping agencies to continue the road frisking operation while maintaining that it should not harass the populace during the process. The representatives of various civil bodies strongly condemned the recent acts of hurling explosives in the heart of the city. 

Earlier, while asserting of peaceful atmosphere during the last few months, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, K. Nzimongo Ngullie expressed concern over reports of factions grouping in Dimapur which has created tension and fear psychosis among the denizens. Bidhu Shekhar, SP Dimapur articulated his concern over the prevailing situation during the last few days resulting in a drastic decrease of people moving around the city at night. “Cut down the rumours” the Chief of Police appealed to the public so as to lessen fear among the general public. DMC Chairman, Tovihoto Ayemi while terming Dimapur as the commercial hub and most happening district in the state, urged the concerned citizens to keep the city peaceful at any cost. 

It may be mentioned that copies of the resolution drafted here today were also submitted to the Chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Board, GoI, the Convenor, Ceasefire Monitoring Cell (NSCN-IM) Dimapur, the Convenor, Ceasefire Supervisory Board (NSCN-K) and to the District Administration and Police in black and white.
