Kohima, March 19 (MExN): The Women’s Forum of St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama observed International Women’s Day at the college indoor stadium, coinciding with its Silver Jubilee year.

Held under the theme “Give to Gain: Give Her Voice Today, Gain a Stronger Tomorrow,” the programme witnessed participation of 1,233 women students along with faculty members, guests and organisers.

The forum was established in 2001 during the tenure of then Principal Rev Fr N K George.

The event began with an invocation by Sr Rose Phaomei, followed by a welcome address by Women’s Forum President Lireni K Humtsoe, who emphasised the importance of awareness and collective responsibility in advancing women’s empowerment.

The keynote address was delivered by M Mathew Yhome, Finance Secretary of the Alumni Association of the college, who highlighted the importance of gender equality and the complementary roles of men and women in society.

He encouraged students to lead responsible lives rooted in respect, accountability and care for family and community, while underscoring the role of women in building progressive societies.

Referring to biblical figures such as Ruth and Hannah, he spoke on values of faith, resilience and dedication, and urged students to uphold dignity and contribute towards creating a safe and secure future for women.

A special musical number was presented by Mayangjemla Imchen.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Women’s Forum General Secretary Sentiben Longkumer, marking both the observance of International Women’s Day and 25 years of the forum’s initiatives promoting empowerment and dialogue.
