SJC's international e-conference ends

Kohima, September 12 (MExN): A two-day International Multi-disciplinary e-conference on ‘Changing Narratives in the Learning Curves Peri-Pandemic’ organized by the Post Graduate Studies, St Joseph’s College (A), Jakhama, Nagaland in collaboration with Veda Vignana Academic and Research Centre, Hyderabad and Ochre (India) concluded on September 11.

A total of 30 papers were presented by students, scholars and faculty members from various academic disciplines across the country and overseas. The e-conference was attended by around 300 participants.

Reflecting on the theme of the conference, the keynote speaker Raveenthiran Vivekanantharasa of the Open University of Sri Lanka addressed the need for innovative learning in an age of digital learning and enhancing sustainability with quality education.

This was followed by the first technical session where the resource person Dr Prasenjit Biswas, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, NEHU, Shillong, Meghalaya talked of a new human predicament that is marked by a perennial state of insecurity where everyone has become wary of the other. This, he pointed out, is the worst form of infection which has led to an inverse humanity, as a result of the insecurities affecting not just physical distancing but also the human hearts and souls.

The second technical session addressed by Dr  J P Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Faculty of Finance, GITAM (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru emphasized that re-learning has become the new norm of learning. The biggest challenge that this new learning poses is how to engage meaningfully with the students.  In order for the educators to efficiently function as facilitators, one has to be equipped with the three Cs- Connection, Confidence and Content, he shared.

The technical sessions were followed by a panel discussion that focused on ways and means of envisioning sustainable strategies post pandemic. While Dr Ngoru Nixon of Dr BR Ambedkar University, Delhi, Dr Rita Bansal of Amity University, Mumbai, Akshaya Desai of Amity University, Mumbai and Sentilong Ozukum, SDO (Civil), Mokokchung, Nagaland were the panelists, Dr Mhonthung Yanthan of St Joseph’s College (A), Jakhma, Nagaland moderated the discussion.
