Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): The International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 9 at St. Joseph University under the theme ‘Each for Equal’.
A talk was delivered by Dr Watinaro Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology and Counselling. She said that today we are celebrating “women’s movement of struggle for equality”.
While on one hand we highlight and celebrate the ‘progress and achievements’ of women in all spheres around the world, yet we see ‘stagnation and reversal’ in various sectors of our society. Women’s fate and future are often more decided by the family and society than by themselves, she lamented.
Girls’ education can play a pivotal role to empower families, economies and communities to thrive. “As educators and learners it is our responsibility to be the voice of the voiceless and be advocates of change,” she asserted.
The keynote address was delivered by Fr Arockia Charles Canon Lawyer, Chennai, who spoke about women known for their quality of sensitivity and quality of acceptance.
The programme was hosted by Krelo Vincenza, Assistant Professor, Department of English while Fr Savari, PRO, pronounced the invocation.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Muilila Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
