DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): The Department of Chemistry, St Joseph University organized a one-day hands-on training session on computational chemistry for science students on May 5.
The training took place at the computer lab of SJU and was attended by 40 students from various disciplines, including Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physics, and Zoology, a press release issued by Parimal C Bhomick, convenor, hands-on training on Computational Chemistry informed.
Resource person Dr M Arockia Doss, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Chemistry, SJU began the training with a brief overview of the basics of computational chemistry and its current state.
Following this, there was a hands-on session on how to download and prepare proteins from the protein data bank, how to select and download protein, and how to perform docking to understand the interaction of protein and ligand using open software like Argus Lab.
The participants were also trained on how to visualize the interaction using Discovery Studio and how to record and interpret the data obtained. During the session, all participants were provided with an assignment related to the training.
After the training, there was a discussion session, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr Parimal C Bhomick, the convener of the program.
