SJU marks Engineer’s Day with focus on smart, sustainable engineering

Chümoukedima, September 15 (MExN): The Departments of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering at St Joseph University (SJU), in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), observed Engineer’s Day 2026 at the SJU Auditorium on September 15.

The celebration, held on the theme “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization,” focused on the role of innovation, digital technology and sustainable engineering practices in addressing emerging challenges.

As per an SJU release, the main address was delivered by SJU Vice Chancellor Dr D Gnanadurai, who highlighted the importance of smart engineering, innovation and digitalisation in advancing sustainable development.

He encouraged students to develop innovative ideas, adopt emerging technologies and apply their engineering knowledge responsibly. Dr Gnanadurai also emphasised the need for engineers to continuously update their technical knowledge and skills in response to the changing demands of the profession.

Other features of the celebration included a welcome address by N R Manikandan, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, and special performances by students of the Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering departments.

Alovi N Shohe, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering, delivered the vote of thanks.

According to SJU, the celebration provided students and faculty an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of engineering to society and the growing importance of sustainable practices, technological innovation and digital solutions in the profession.
