SJU observes Engineer’s Day with Green Building webinar

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): A National Level Technical Webinar on “Green Building and its Design” was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, St Joseph University (SJU) Dimapur on the occasion of 54th Engineer’s Day on September 15.  

The resource person of the webinar Dr Rajshree Charan, in her presentation, highlighted the process of designing a green building and explained  the different types of materials for green building such as wool brick, sustainable concrete, solar tiles, etc. which are used to construct a sustainable building.

Dr Charan, an Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Mechanics and Structural Engineering, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat, also stressed some points while designing a building, i.e., structural efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, etc.

She also pointed out some demerits like high initial investment, lack of availability of materials, etc and also highlighted the procedures to get a green building certification from LEED & NGBS.

A press release from SJU informed that the presentation was followed by an interactive session with the resource person answering queries raised by the students. The webinar was attended by 94 participants.
