SJU students explore philosophy of culture

Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): The Department of Philosophy, St Joseph University (SJU) organised a Colloquium on Philosophy of Culture with Indigenous perspective on March 4 at Good Shepherd Seminary, Thahekhu Village, Dimapur. 

 


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Imkumnaro, Head, Department of Philosophy, SJU explored the concept of philosophy of culture and stated that unity of humanity is the objective of any investigation into the world of Philosophy. The Philosophy of culture denotes the power of humanity to appreciate and to be united with sensitivity towards all. 

 


Peteneizo Talie spoke on the ‘philosophy of culture’ based on the culture of the Angami Naga tribe, stated a press release from Rev Dr Fr Sunny, Rector of Good Shepherd Seminary, Dimapur.

 


Talie considered the traditional practices as originated from the needs and aspirations the people of the past held as their priority.

 


He explored the inherent values of the customary life as honesty, purity, respect, hardwork and solidarity of the community. 

 


Fr Rajesh SDB, Professor, Salesian College of Higher Education stressed on the ability of the human mind to produce patterns with advanced behavior. It is the discovery of knowledge that forms the fuel for the philosophy of culture through education, he said.

 


Fr Sunny Joseph emphasized on the need for initiating the practice of values of the culture for better living. Michael Minj proposed the vote of thanks.
