
Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): The Department of History, St Joseph University (SJU), Nagaland organised a virtual event under the theme ‘Every day practices and crafts that connects us to the past’ on November 25.
It was supervised by Dr Avinuo Chupuo, HOD, Department of History, and Assistant professors Mhonlumi L Tungoe and Anuvolu Rose. The event was chaired by Kamugha K Chishi (PG 3rd semester), welcome note delivered by Vika Sumi (UG 3rd semester) and meaning of Art and Culture expressed by Petekhrienuo (UG 5th semester).
During the event, videos of different arts were displayed, showcasing talents, skills and creativity. It was conducted with an aim to learn, preserve and remember the rich art and culture of the Nagas and to appreciate the amazing history of various tribes, stated a press release from the college.
Students from different semesters displayed their talent in the form of Traditional Bamboo cooking by Lomi Shohe, Sukhaholi Sumi and Kumsuto Chopy (UG 5th semester).
The art of fire lighting by Lunso (UG 3rd semester), gave an insight of how our ancestors actually made fire in the olden days. Traditional Earlobe ornaments by Changtola (UG 5th semester), displayed the rich vibrant colours, elegant dress and ornaments being overshadowed by modern means of art and which needs preservation for its uniqueness. Basketry and traditional bamboo works by Fuchamo and wochamo (PG 3rd semester) highlighted the importance of bamboo resources.
Traditional miniature Naga house by Wochumo (UG 5th semester) and wood carving methods by Tsuhzelu Ringa (UG 3rd semester) illuminated on Naga arts and crafts with simple traditional tools. Folk songs (Aneojikhi Khun) and tales performed and narrated by Kiuthrun Yimchunger (UG 3rd semester) and Kaizuniu Kaurinta (UG 5th semester) respectively.
The event was successfully attended by 101 participants and concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Thaisinglung, President, History Department Association.
