Three day skill training for rural employment under the aegis of Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) in collaboration with Glocal Concepts Nagaland (GCN) got underway today at Medziphema under Chümoukedima district.
Altogether, 252 youth turned up for the training, which will continue till August 11.

Speaking at the opening ceremony as the special guest, Advisor to Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio urged the district level selection committee of any schemes/projects to ensure that deserving entrepreneurs carry their start-up with diligence. He also asked the financial institutions to ensure hindrance free transaction of loan to the qualified entrepreneurs.

Further, Rio asked the entrepreneurs to take up the business venture with seriousness and at the same time, reminded them to prioritize timely recovery of bank loans.

Abhinav Shivam, Deputy Commissioner Chümoukedima said that the world was advancing in all areas and it therefore needs strong business principles which he asserted will come only from private enterprise. He said the first priority of the government is to work for the welfare of the people and the first priority of the private enterprise is for earnings.

When this two come together, it will bring development, he said. He also stressed on the need to develop the attitude of professionalism.

 Paotingthang Khongsai, Lead District Manager, Chümoukedima district said that Khadi and Village Industries have always played an important role in employment generation in the rural areas.

“It is necessary to create employment opportunities for the fast increasing workforce in rural areas,” he said.

He said that the skill training programmes will go a long way in imparting the necessary skills to enhance ability and opportunities of the participants on income generation and sustainable livelihood and thereby have access to improved standard of living.

He assured that the financial institutions are ever ready to extend full cooperation in implementation of the various rural development schemes of the KVIB and other govt. agencies.

Delivering welcome address, Pfukeduo Sopfu, PS to NKVIB chairman said that this training programme conceptualized by NKVIB chairman Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu is driven with a vision to develop a platform for skill acquisition, skill up-gradation, self-employment, employment generation and contribution to economic growth.

He said it will ease the issue of un-employment and to support and uplift the educated un-employed, housewives, school dropouts, and illiterate.

This training programme will focus on 4 potential sectors-carpentry, food processing, beekeeping and soap making in the districts of Phek, Peren, Tuensang & Chümoukedima this year. In 2021, NKVIB connected similar training programme to 4 districts- Kohima, Dimapur, Kiphire and Mon.
