DIMAPUR, JANUARY 10: The apex Sumi students’ body, Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) is all geared up to commemorate the union’s yearlong platinum jubilee starting with the launching ceremony and unveiling of the jubilee monolith on January 15 at Imulomi village under Atoizu sub-division in Zunheboto district.
Retired Supreme Court judge, Justice HK Sema, who was also the sixth president of SKK will unveil the platinum jubilee monolith at Imulomi village, which hosted the first SKK (formerly Sumi Students’ Conference) conference in 1940.
At a press briefing here at Circuit House on Friday, members of the planning board and other committees of the SKK platinum jubilee led by chairman, Kitoho S Rotokha, informed about the various programmes and events to be organized by SKK during the year-long celebration, which will culminate in January 2015 at Zunheboto town.
With “A glorious generation” as theme, the jubilee will highlight, retrospect and deliberate on the contribution of Sumis to Nagas in general in all aspects including Naga political, socio-cultural and economic. It may be mentioned former Himachal Pradesh Governor, late Dr. Hokishe Sema, and former chief minister KL Chishi were the third and eight presidents of SKK respectively.
The series of events and programmes of the year-long jubilee celebration include training on entrepreneurship in April at Niuland, awareness camp on competitive exams in the month of July, observation of Sumi ‘Patriots’ Day’ on August 4 and celebration of Ahuna and Tuluni festivals. SKK will also conduct seminars and debate on the impact of ‘communitization’ policy on education.
SKK will also construct a Jubilee memorial hall (multipurpose building) in Zunheboto and another Jubilee memorial institution (skills development and vocational centre) in Niuland, as part of the jubilee celebration.
For successful coordination and smooth functioning of the jubilee celebration, SKK has convened a meeting with all Sumi frontal organizations and civil societies on January 16 at ‘Sumi Hoho Ki’ in Zunheboto.
Other SKK platinum jubilee board and committee members present at the press briefing included Aheto V Yepthomi (convenor programme committee), Hukavi T Yepthomi (convenor souvenir committee), Khevishe Achumi (co-chairman planning board) and SKK president Holuvi Chophy.
