SATAMI, JUNE 1 (MExN): The All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) held its 3rd Union Assembly for the 2024–26 tenure at Satami village on May 30, hosted by the Eastern Sümi Students’ Union, with participation from 16 affiliated units and a firm stance voiced against the Government of Nagaland’s 48-year-old reservation policy.
The gathering began with an opening prayer by Rev. Mughaho Awomi, Pastor of Satami Baptist Church, and was chaired by Ili Gloria Phuleshe, Media Coordinator of the Sümi Totimi Hoho. A significant moment during the event was the unveiling of the 3rd Union Assembly monolith by SKK President Gihuka K. Zhimo, followed by the flag hoisting by Assembly Speaker Imeka Z. Awomi.
In a show of unity, attendees sang the SKK Anthem. Speaker Awomi, along with Deputy Speaker Obet Zhimo and Assembly Secretary Jubito Chishi, welcomed delegates and observers, setting the tone for a focused session.
Among the key resolutions, the union reiterated its opposition to the state’s prolonged reservation policy, which it described as outdated and in need of serious review.
Discussions also included updates on the development of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA), emphasizing the students’ union's ongoing commitment to infrastructure and educational progress.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks from General Secretary Toshika K. Kiba and a closing prayer led by Cultural Secretary Ili Aloli Aomi, reflecting the collective resolve and enthusiasm of the SKK for student welfare and societal progress.
