Sökrönye festival of Chakhesang Nagas at Khomi

The Sökrönye under the aegis of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland was celebrated at Middle Khomi Ground (Khalutii) from January 15. Sökrönye is the premier tribal festival of the Chakhesang Nagas.

Ex-MLA Nüzota Swiiro, chairman Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA), Government of Nagaland graced the festival as the special guest and called upon the community to revisit the good traditional practices of the forefathers.

He said that respect to elders, hard work and honouring taboo principles will take the people forward.

He called upon the people to continue to maintain unity and friendship among the tribe and the Nagas.

Earlier, CPO President Vezühü Keyho inaugurated stalls. The inaugural programme was chaired by CPO vice president Vecito Dozo. Act of blessings was pronounced by CPO former president Yekhüsu Tureng while welcome address was delivered by Khomi Public Organization (KPO) President Phethosü Nakro.

The significance of Sökrönye was highlighted by Süneyi Vadeo. Vote of thanks was delivered by CPO Secretary Rüyovo Keyho.
The celebration witnessed cultural performances from Khomi, Chakhesang Cultural Organization, Jessami Cutural Troupe, Kiitsapo village, Losami village, Sumi village and Pholami village. 

The festival also featured product exhibition by Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, Phek Organic Spice Heritage Company Ltd, Phek DPO Land Resources, Losami women, Upper Khomi, Middle Khomi and Lower Khomi. Further, the festival was marked by Sökrönye feast and Sökrönye extravaganza.
