Slow job recruitment processes in Manipur

With elections to Manipur Legislative Assembly three or four months away, demands for completion of government job recruitments are growing in the state.

The elections to the state Assembly are due by early part of next year. The election is expected to be held in February and March.

With only months away to go to the polls, government job aspirants who appeared in the government job recruitment rallies are apprehensive of not completing the recruitment processes before the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for the elections.

With this apprehension, candidates who appeared in the recruitment of multi-tasking staff (MTS) in the Education department on Wednesday drew the attention of the concerned authorities of the state government to declare the results of the recruitment.

A joint action committee (JAC) formed by the candidates on Wednesday set a November 10 deadline to the state government to declare the results of the recruitment.

If the results are not declared by November 10, the JAC has threatened that they will launch a series of agitations including boycotting of the upcoming elections.

The state Education department conducted the recruitment rally for appointment of 413 MTS for the department by issuing a notification in August, 2018.

The processes like written test and viva-voce for the appointment had already been completed. However, the declaration of the results is still pending.

Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, JAC convener S Somananda Singh strongly condemned the state government, particularly the state Education department for not declaring the results timely.

He said that they had a high hope of declaring the results when the state Education minister, a few months ago, assured of declaring the results latest by September 2021. He said that the present Education minister who attended a function organized by a students' body had assured the declaration of the results latest by September.

However, the results were not declared even more than two months after the deadline given by the minister.

With the non declaration of the results till date, candidates are apprehensive of delaying the completion of the recruitment processes further until the elections to the state Assembly is over, he said.

The N Biren-led BJP’s coalition government has also been under pressure after it failed to complete the recruitment processes for the appointment of riflemen and jemadar for the proposed establishment of 10th and 11th IRBs.

The candidates who appeared in the rallies had even attempted to storm the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal when the chief minister did not give them an appointment to meet with their leaders.

In their continuing pressure on the state government, the candidates agitating under the aegis of ‘All Manipur 10th and 11th Vice-Voce Completed IRB Rifleman and Written Completed Jemadar Candidates, 2019’ had set a November 10 deadline to declare the results.

While setting the deadline they threatened to launch strong agitations, including bandhs and blockades on the national highways.
