‘SMA yet to release free textbooks & uniforms’

Dimapur, March 21 (DIPR): The Dimapur District Mission Authority (DMA) for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) held its Coordination meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur on March 18, 2011. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner & DMA Chairman, Maongwati Aier.
While welcoming the Board members in the meeting, the chairman said that Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is one of the pilot projects & Flagship programme of the Centre’s and state Government for universalization of Education in the state. He said that, for proper implementation of this flagship programme a three –tier system of planning has been set –up by the state Govt. from grass-root to top level such as Block, District and State level. That is why Education is being one of the organs in the Communitization programme.
Aier said that, implementation of SSA under communitization in the state has gained appreciation throughout the country, as it encouraged equal opportunity for education of both the Gender. He added that state Government is more focused on Girl child and Child with Special Needs (CWSN) or Physically Challenged education that is why the state is witnessing high literacy rate (67%).
The DC also urged all the Allied Departments like Administration, Education, Health & Family Welfare, Food & Civil Supply, Rural Development, Social Welfare etc, for co-operation and to converge as one entity for successful implementation of this flagship programme in the District. He said that there are some water-tight departments who don’t want to share information or their project which hamper Development in the District. He said that information sharing and cooperation is very important to avoid overlapping or duplication of work.
While highlighting power point on activities of School Education in the District, District Education Officer (DEO), Asono Ndang said altogether there are 301 Government schools which include 229 GPS, 60 GMS, 9 GHS and 3 GHSS and 1778 Teachers in the District. DEO also said that State Mission Authority (SMA) is yet to release free textbooks & uniforms in the district.
The board reviewed the last meeting minutes and discussed agenda on deployment of teachers in their designated place of posting. The board members also expressed their dismay and opined that textbooks & uniforms should be released at the earliest as the classes are in full swing for the last three months. On deployment of teachers, to safe guard the student’s career and to sensitise education system in the state, the members opined that the concerned department needs to act rationally while posting are being done. Members who attended the meeting included ADC Sedevikho Khro, Deputy Project Director (SMA) SSA, Polem Tep, Rtd Joint Director (SE), John Lohe, DMC member Lipok and other Head of offices.
