Kohima, March 1 (MExN): The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) of Baptist College, Kohima, in collaboration with the Blood Bank, Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) has conducted a blood donation drive under the theme ‘Small Act, Big Impact’ on March 1 at Baptist College, Kohima.

The programme was chaired by Chubutse Naro, a member of RRC, while the keynote address was delivered by Asola Jamir, the convenor of RRC. Jamir highlighted the purpose of the initiative, emphasizing that such programmes serve as a vital service to humanity, as they help save lives and provide a lifeline for those in need. She stressed that a small act of kindness, like donating blood, can create a significant impact.

A short briefing was given by Dr Avila, Medical Officer, Transfusion Medicine Department & Blood Centre, NHAK. She explained the process of blood donation, covering aspects such as donor questionnaires, medical history, blood pressure, and hemoglobin levels. She also emphasised the required time gap between donations, which is three months for males and four months for females.

Additionally, she highlighted that each unit of donated blood is separated into four major components— platelets, plasma, red blood cells, and white blood cells—which can be used to save at least three lives. She encouraged student’s participation in such a noble cause even in the days to come. Certificates were given to the donors.

The programme concluded with a presentation by Naro, Convenor of NSS, followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Kevichüse-ü Agnes, a member of RRC.
Altogether, 10 students voluntarily donated blood during the event.
