DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 18 (MExN): The launching programme of the Terogvunyu Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK), along with the distribution of tools and machinery, was held at Terogvunyu village on November 17. The event was inaugurated by Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission chairman Obed Quinker, who attended as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Quinker said the project, though modest in scale, carries the potential to bring meaningful change to the community. He reminded villagers that forests and fields are valuab le assets and urged them to use available resources effectively to enhance their livelihoods.
Calling for sincerity and seriousness in implementing government schemes, he cautioned that many initiatives fail due to poor commitment. He encouraged the villagers to make Terogvunyu an example of successful implementation for others to emulate.
Quinker also highlighted the village’s unique advantage of having an apitherapy facility, noting that it sets Terogvunyu apart from many other communities. Whether in beekeeping or any other livelihood activity, he said, individuals must work with dedication and a clear sense of purpose. Proper utilisation of resources, he added, could enable the VDVK to become one of the best performing centres in the state.
Earlier, the programme began with the official launch of VDVK tools and machinery by the special guest, followed by a dedicatory prayer offered by Tekhenlo Semp. Nzanbemo K. Lotha, in his introductory note, said that as beekeeping is seasonal, the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission has integrated other minor forest produce (MFPs) with honey to ensure year-round engagement and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
Project coordinator and team member Mhathung T. Tsopoe highlighted key features of the PMJVM scheme. Others who took part in the programme included Terogvunyu village pastor Sentsin Tep, Daniel Tep, Lily Tep, Benjamin Lorin, Sungyu Semp and Shwehilo Tep.
