Sümi Hoho welcomes repeal of NMA Act, assures cooperation

Zunheboto, April 2 (MExN): The Sümi Hoho has welcomed the resolution of the Government of Nagaland to repeal the Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) 2001 in toto as commendable and a right move.

‘The move exhibits the true leadership spirit and the people pro government by deciding to go in consonance with the voice of the people,’ stated a press release issued by Sümi Hoho President, Nikheto Jimomi and General Secretary, Dr Vihuto Asumi on April 1.

It further expressed appreciation to Chief Minister  Neiphiu Rio, his cabinet colleagues and the entire members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for heeding to the call of the tribal hohos and the civil society organisations.

The repeal of NMA 2001 would allow rewriting “in the context of the Naga society in protecting the customary and traditional rights and practices of the Naga people,” it maintained.

The Sümi Hoho further stated that it was optimistic that the incumbent team in the government would  usher a new beginning in bringing transformation in all walks of life in the land. It also urged the State Government to rewrite the NMA at the earliest taking the stakeholders into confidence.

As assured by the Nagaland tribal hohos in its consultative meeting resolution on March 27, the Sümi Hoho will extend fullest cooperation with government in conduct of ULB elections once the NMA is rewritten as proposed by the people, it added.
