Dimapur, February 11 (MExN): The Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH) and Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) have vehemently condemned the alleged murder of a woman at Thilixu village on February 9. The Dimapur police have arrested her husband as a suspect in connection with her death.
Meanwhile, in their condemnations, the STH and ESSU identified the accused husband as Kughato Yeptho, who allegedly perpetrated the “heinous crime.”
Expressing extreme perturbation over the "vile act," the STH stated that it has not “only tormented the victim but also perpetuated a culture of violence against women, creating a sense of insecurity within our society.”
In this connection, it demanded that the accused be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
The STH stands in solidarity with the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for an end to violence against women, it added.
Meanwhile, the ESSU also denounced the “brutal and senseless murder” and expressed outrage over what it deemed an “act of complete betrayal of trust beyond human imagination.”
Accordingly, it urged the law-enforcing agency to take prompt and stringent action against the perpetrator, ensuring justice for the victim and her family without delay, as per the law of the land.
It further assured its full commitment to the victim’s family until justice is delivered and affirmed its resolute stand against any practices derogatory to the dignity of women.
The ESSU shall continue to work ceaselessly towards creating a society where women are safe, respected, and valued, it added.
The union also extended its condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for comfort during this time of grief and pain.
