Smile Train conducts 129 free surgeries

Smile Train Shija Cleft Project team at Oking Hospital & Research Clinic, Kohima.

Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Smile Train Shija Cleft Project team has completed 129 free cleft lip and palate surgeries in 13th Mission Nagaland conducted from April 16 to 18 at Oking Hospital & Research Clinic (P) Ltd., Kohima. 

The team was led by Dr. Kh. Palin, MCh (Plastic surgery), Smile Train Partner Surgeon and Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Shija Hospitals, Imphal “However, due to frequent loading and power shutdown hamper the operations,” said Dr. Palin. 

A cleft lip and palate is a separation or gap on the lip and roof of mouth. Most of them cannot eat, drink or speak properly. Due to shame, they cannot even attend school or hold a job and lead a painful life in isolation. “Under the banner of Mission Myanmar the team is also extending the service at Monywa, Sagaing Division of Myanmar in near future,” said Dr. Palin.
