Trivandrum, July 15 (MExN): The Society for Naga Students’ Welfare Kerala (SNSWK) organised a ‘Workers’ Seminar’ at the Kerala United Theological Seminary (KUTS) in Trivandrum on July 14.
The event saw the participation of around 200 workers, who came together for a day of learning, reflection and empowerment, stated an update from Nungsangmanen Aier, President SNSWK.
An important outcome of the event was the successful enrolment of all participating workers in the Athidhi Portal, the official platform of the Kerala government for registering migrant and unorganized sector workers. This move will help ensure better access to benefits, support, and recognition for those in the labour force, SNSWK stated.
Earlier, the seminar was conducted in two sessions. The first session on ‘Retreat Program’ offered workers a space for mental and emotional rejuvenation. It encouraged reflection and dialogue, allowing attendees to momentarily step away from daily pressures and focus on personal growth and well-being.
The second session focused on awareness on drug abuse and its effects, an issue of growing concern in many labour communities. A panel of distinguished resource persons led the session: Harikumar P.S., Assistant Commissioner of Excise and District Manager of Vimukthi Mission, along with Rejitha R. (Labour Officer), Lakshmichandra R (Assistant Labour Officer), and Arun S. (Assistant Labour Officer).
The speakers shared vital information about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and its social and health impacts. They also took the opportunity to educate the workers on their rights, available welfare schemes, and the importance of staying informed and engaged with support systems.
