Social security for building & other construction workers

Bhandari, November 22 (MExN): The building and other construction workers are one of the most vulnerable segments of unorganized labour in India where Nagaland cannot be isolated from it. In this connection, the Government of Nagaland has constituted the Nagaland Building and other Construction Workers’ Welfare (NBOCW) Board to provide social security to these sections of workers by implementing different schemes especially designed for the purpose.  

Project Officer & Secretary NBOCW Welfare Board, Chuba Yanger in his technical session explained on how to become a beneficiary under the welfare schemes, stated a DIPR report. The beneficiaries get automatic insurance cover under ‘Aam Admi Bima Yojona’ by Life Insurance Company of India. The annual premium is paid by the welfare board on behalf of the beneficiary for natural death. Rs. 30,000/- accidental death, Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 75,000/- for permanent disability.  

Loss of two eye or limbs or lost of one eye or limb due to accident are given a financial assistance of Rs. 37,000/- permissible till the completion of 60 years of age. Medical assistance to beneficiaries, spouse and children on hospitalization due to accident or any sickness is given Rs. 1000/- per day for the first five days followed by Rs. 200/- per day for the remaining 10 days.   Children education allowance of beneficiaries studying from Nursery to Class 10 will be provided Rs. 300/- scholarship per month. Maternity benefit for beneficiaries Rs. 5000/- per pregnancy subject to two times will be provided to the wives of registered beneficiaries.  

Any person interested in it can register under Nagaland Building and other construction Workers provided he or she must have completed 18 years of age but have not completed 59 years. A beneficiary should have a bank account of any nationalized bank, birth certificate, Aadhaar Card, 2 passport photos for office register and beneficiary ID card and construction worker ID proof from village council or town committee. The programme was chaired by Assistant Labour Commissioner Wokha, Renchamo Ngullie. Short speech was delivered by ADC Bhandari, Orenthung Lotha who appealed to the gathering to take serious note and avail the facilities by fulfilling the required criteria as explained by the Department of Labour Department.
