DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 30 (MExN): The Socialist Party (India) has sought clarification from the Election Commission on what it alleged as undemocratic practice of the Naharbari Village Council in restricting political parties to field candidates in four wards namely ward no-8, 9, 10 and11. A press statement issued by the national vice president of the Socialist Party, Akhei Achumi said the Naharbari Village Council has selected own candidates for the four wards and resolved that it will not allow any political party or any other intending candidate to contest. It also pointed out that the Naharbari Village Council has been dissolved owing to the up gradation of the village to a town council. Terming the actions of the village council chairman and community members as illegal and violation of free and fair election and against voting rights, the Socialist Party vowed that it will never accept such resolution made by the community and said village council. It has therefore urged the Election Commission to examine into the matter and provide due clarification before the filing of nomination papers.
