Soil & Water Conservation department meeting with minister

Kohima, April 18 (MExN): The Department of Soil & Water Conservation held a co-ordination meeting with V Kashiho Sangtam, Minister for Soil & Water Conservation and Geology and Mining, Government of Nagaland on April 18.  

The meeting was called to deliberate on the departmental activities and review the progress of projects and schemes in all the districts implemented during 2017-18, informed a press release.  

The District Soil Conservation Officers (DSCOs) of all the 11 districts presented the completed and ongoing projects of their respective districts substantiated by the activities’ photographs.  

Various proposals were made by the officers for revival of State Land Use Board (SLUB), implementation of new projects, strengthening of manpower, renovation and construction of infrastructure, purchase of new machineries etc, the release stated. They also aired the grievances they faced while executing their works.  

Mechanical division located in Dimapur highlighted the status of heavy machineries of the department.  

Meanwhile, the minister in his speech expressed concern over the financial paucity that the department was facing and encouraged the department to propose identifiable and impressive projects which will benefit the public.  

He also suggested that an appropriate mechanism for transfer and posting of the officers equitably in all districts be created. Remarking that the projects implemented should be sustainable for years even after the completion of its term, Kashiho further encouraged the beneficiaries to own and maintain them. The minister also assured to look into the problems faced and called for a well-organized team work to take the department to greater heights.  

Earlier, Viliehu Nguzhu, Additional Director & HoD in his welcome address highlighted the organizational set up of the department and maintained that the district officers were the governors of the department in the district.
