Solar dryer unit for fish farmers inaugurated at Tuli

Rahul Singh, General Manager (Operations), Nagaland Rural Bank, inaugurates the solar dryer unit for fish farmers at Tuli under Mokokchung District.

Tuli, March 29 (MExN): In a significant step towards sustainable livelihood enhancement and improved fish processing practices, a solar dryer unit for fish farmers was inaugurated at Tuli under Mokokchung District.

The project was inaugurated by Rahul Singh, General Manager (Operations), Nagaland Rural Bank, in the presence of Subonenba Longkumer, Director of the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS), along with local stakeholders, fish farmers, and community members.

The initiative is supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under its TRIBES programme. The project aims to benefit around 200 fish farmers in Tuli by introducing efficient and eco-friendly fish drying technology.

The solar dryer is expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses, a major challenge faced by fish farmers due to spoilage and inadequate preservation facilities. By ensuring hygienic drying conditions, the unit will help produce high-quality dried fish with enhanced shelf life and better market value.

Speaking at the event, Singh emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable technologies to strengthen rural livelihoods and encouraged farmers to make the best use of the facility. He also urged the farmers to utilise available resources and assured that the Nagaland Rural Bank would extend support to farmers and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through bank linkages and loans for sustainable livelihood.
