Solar lamps light up villages in Naginimora

Naginimora, August 30 (MExN): The Nagaland State Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change provided eco friendly solar lamps to two remote villages - Wapnyu and Maoching - under Naginimora Forest Range in Mon on August 29. The villages lack basic infrastructure like roads and electricity owing to their remoteness, stated a press release from Suman W M Sivachar, IFS, ACF In-charge, Naginimora.

At Wapnyu village, Deputy Ranger along with the staff demonstrated the usage of the solar lamps. The distribution of solar lamps was followed by an interaction between the villagers and the department. The unwelcome visits by elephants to their farms from time to time was brought up by the villagers, for which, a simple method to ward away the elephants without inflicting physical harm to them was suggested, the release said. The method involves a careful mixing of chilli pods with dung bundled with dry grass. The bundle is then kept strategically at vulnerable spots away from human habitation and lit to generate smoke, which drive away the elephants, it added.

A similar distribution and interaction program was carried out with Maoching villagers.

The village elders and the villagers of both the villages expressed gratitude to P Shyam, Director, Akshara Motors, Bengaluru for his generosity in providing the solar lamps. They also thanked Forest Department officials for making it all the way to the village despite the remoteness.
