Sole lifeline of our village cut down, says Lüruri Development Council

DIMAPUR, JULY 15 (MExN): The Lüruri Development Council (LDC) today alleged that the village’s sole lifeline—a suspension bridge over the Tizu River—has been “cut down” by persons “under an organization known as the Mimi Circle Joint Council.”

A press release from the LDC President, K Lanshitsü said that the bridge which connects the people of the Lüruri village to their jhum and terraced fields was cut down on July 4. This was done, the LDC said, despite the matter being “sub judice” and “when the district administration authorities have issued a restraining order on May 30, 2019 through the Additional Deputy Commissioners of Pungro of Kiphire district and Meluri of Phek district respectively.”

“This is sheer violation of the government order for which the culprits should not be let loose to take law into their own hands,” the LDC said.

It meanwhile informed that presently, an IR Battalion of the NAP is posted in Mutingkhong village. The LDC however lamented that “police personnel posted became mute spectators and failed to do their entrusted duties.” “They did not restrain the Longpfür people who do what they wanted to do, and today our age old bridge has been cut off in full view of these armed personnel. This is very unfortunate,” it said.

The LDC therefore called upon the Nagaland State Government to “immediately interfere and settle the issue amicably before the issue goes out of control.” “Let justice prevail through the intervention of government machineries,” it stated.
