‘Solution should be based on 1951 Naga Plebiscite’

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The Naga Shisha Hoho has issued a “position statement” to let “the people know of” of its “position” on a number of issues. According to the statement, “in a prophetic vision” to the Naga Shisha Hoho, it has been revealed that any “interim solution” or “political package” at this juncture would result in further division and bloodshed among the Nagas.

The position statement has stated that the May 16. 1951 Naga Plebiscite is the “common denominator for all Naga political groups” and that “there is no other course for the Nagas but to return and fulfill the covenant established between God and the Nagas through the Naga Plebiscite”. Therefore the Naga Shisha Hoho stated that “any political solution should be based on the position taken by the people in the 1951 Naga Plebiscite”. “We urge all the Naga political groups to work together for the future based on this principle”, stated the statement which was issued by Puduho Khuso, Prayer Secretary and Vezalhu Nyiekha and Vezokho Vero.

The Naga Shisha Hoho has also stated that it was “committed to Naga Reconciliation” pointing out that it “will continue to work and pray for Naga Reconciliation”. “We encourage all the Naga political groups to respect and uphold the ‘Covenant of Reconciliation’ and ‘Naga Concordant’ in letter and in deed”. The Naga Shisha Hoho offered its “thanksgiving for the drastic reduction of violence between the Naga political groups”.

It stated that ever since the Naga Reconciliation Process led by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation began in 2008, armed violence between the Naga political groups has been greatly reduced. “We appeal to the leaders of the Naga political groups to continue building understanding through peaceful means in the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation”.
