Sharingain Longkumer, Deputy Speaker, NLA inaugurated the Songkongkangyong water pumping project at Aolijen, Ungma under Mokokchung district.
The water pumping project was an initiative of the residents of Aolijen ward in collaboration with the Department of PHE, Mokokchung.
The water is pumped to a tank located on top of a small hill from Songkongkangyong, a small stream along a distance of about two kilometers. The water is pumped into a tank of 30000 litres and will help in distributing water to almost 200 households in Aolijen ward, Ungma.
While addressing the small gathering, Sharigain Longkumer, Deputy Speaker, NLA said that we may adapt to a lifestyle without fossil fuels and its byproducts but we can never adapt a life without water. He talked about the importance of water and said that it is time we look at this global water scarcity phenomena deeply. He encouraged the people to preserve and use what nature has given us and do not let the source of the water disappear.
Er. Yanger Pongen, Executive Engineer, PHE, Mokokchung also spoke on the occasion along with Chubangangtet Jamir, Chairman, Aolijen Ward Chairman and Alemtoshi Imsong, Tatar, Chairman, Ungma Village Council.
