Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): Songwriters and people involved in worship ministry were able to receive some practical tips to apply to their feature during a workshop held at Music-A: Alobo Naga School of music on March 17.
The ‘SONGS OF INDIA: Workshop on Song Writing & Worship’ organised by Musik-A (Alobo Naga School of Music) in association with Livejam India and CMPA UK/US featured Allen Ganta, Worship pastor, Sounds of the Nations. More than 40 worship artists, leaders, musicians and songwriter from various churches, bible colleges, lyricists including poets from across the state participated in the workshop.
The session included both theoretical and practical know-how on songwriting and music, including breakout sessions where the participants were made to write and compose songs, and made to perform their songs at the close of the workshop. Workshop mentors gave feedback and evaluation at the end.
One of the participants, Aren Sayer, Worship Leader sharing about the workshop said, “This is something very divine and beautiful, an experience I am privileged to encounter for the first time. The word of God and the idea of song writing or new song/sound going hand in hand and also learning from the position of identifying yourself and the authority you posses as a nation shaker is just overwhelming.”
“As a musician this is one part I mostly enjoy because it opens up my mind to a whole new world in learning new things about new music. To be a part of this workshop is an immense pleasure for me personally’” Saronthung Kikon, an artiste said while adding, “Getting to learn from the great musician who has lots and lots of experience is a joy for me. This workshop is definitely going to help me in my journey as a musician.” Chanbeni said, “I think I understood now how to write a song. Hope I don’t give up trying.” The organizers informed that they are coming up with a follow-up/Community to establish a local chapter of the participants to ensure that regular meets take place, to write more songs as and for the community.
The vision and aim of Songs of India project is to empower individuals to write the songs of the Lord with the sounds of the land. The project aims to compose 500 fresh songs in 5 years using Indian languages and music. The workshop will conduct songwriting workshops to enable more songs to be written keeping the Indian context in mind and build a community of songwriters to further curate and nurture local talent.
