DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): Three persons have been arrested for torturing and killing a Hornbill bird in Bhandari, Wokha district, the video of which went viral on social media on June 12.
A press release from the Green Succession of Nagaland State (Green SONS) meanwhile appreciated the Wildlife and the Police Departments for speedy action taken upon the perpetrators. “It is indeed too cruel and insane to have acted in such a manner and the culprits should be booked with severity under the appropriate section of the Wildlife protection Act,” the Green SONS stated. It further informed that at this time of nesting season, the cock hornbill might have ventured out from the deep forest to gather food for the nesting hen and the chicks “which may have caused them death due to hunger.” It therefore appealed to the therefore to take exemplary action against the culprits.
