Phek, October 14 (MExN): Suthotsumi Outsiders Union (SOU), Phek Town has questioned the arrest of one of its members by the Assam Rifles on suspicion of being a member of the NSCN (K). SOU, Phek Town, in a press release, stated that it pertained to the arrest of one Neilie Vero at Kohima on October 10 by security personnel.
The SOU release defended that the arrest was based on false report and held the AR “may have the power to arrest but should refrain from resorting to hasty action without first verifying...”
The release claimed that Vero was a “mere public” after serving a prison term of one and a half years. “He is no more an NSCN (K) cadre nor belongs to any factional group but a mere public living peacefully in the village since then,” it said.
While terming the arrest as absurd, the union appealed authority in concern “to release him unharmed at the earliest.”
