Demands prompt remedial action expediting repair for NH02 between Kisama and Khuzama
Kohima, February 17 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) on Friday issued an ultimatum to the General Manager of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for prompt remedial action and expediting repair for National Highway 02, between Naga Heritage Village, Kisama and Khuzama Police Check Post stretch.
SAYO, President, Metekhrielie Mejura and General Secretary, Metevizo Sophie in the ultimatum said that the present deplorable road condition in the NH02, between Naga Heritage Village, Kisama- Khuzama Police Check Post stretch has been neglected and lying in shambles causing inconvenience to the general public and commuters.
The organization said, “The NH stretch serves as the main road connectivity for the people of the Southern Angami Villages and various districts connecting us to the capital town and to the rest of the state.” It mentioned that the highway provides connectivity to the Dzükou Valley which is a tourist hotspot attracting local, domestic and international tourists throughout the year. The road stretch also serves as a lifeline for the neighbouring state of Manipur where travellers, passengers and heavy vehicles carrying goods ply on a daily basis.
However, the road stretch from Kigwema to Khuzama Village has been left in a dilapidated state for a long time and the stretch from Jakhama till Khuzama Village is in a hazardous state making driving unpleasant and unsafe for drivers and commuters, it stated.
It reminded that the repairing work and construction of roads were undertaken in the month of November 2021, just before the annual International Hornbill Festival and inauguration of the 59th Statehood Day which appeared to be of quality workmanship. “But the preceding stretch was halted after the event commenced and till date no work was sighted further,” it added.
While the Company is entrusted with the task of improving and maintaining road connectivity to enable efficient and safe transport, it said, that SAYO office “intimate your authority and the concerned contractors responsible for undertaking the work to take prompt remedial steps in response to the issue served and expedite the repairing work process at the earliest to ensure pliable serviceable roads without delay.”
Meanwhile, SAYO also appealed the State Government to seriously intervene and look into the matter for the welfare of the public in general and in consideration of the submissions made. “However, if any accident or untoward incident occurs because of the hazardous road condition, the agency responsible for maintaining the road will be liable and could reasonably anticipate the result from the dangerous condition,” it cautioned.
