Sovima T20 Cricket Gold Cup: Blue Star, TSA, BMS win

Morung Express News Dimapur | October 16   Day 2 of Sovima T20 Cricket Gold Cup witnessed a successful run chase as Blue Star overcame Victoria CC in the third match of the day. It was the first successful chase in four matches of the tournament so far. The other two matches of the day and the inaugural match on October 16 saw the chasing teams faltering and failing to reach 3-figures.   Batting first appeared to be the win mantra but it was not to be for team Victoria. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Victoria posted a seemingly defendable score of 114, batting out the allotted 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Dipanker Meri made the bulk of the runs in a 46-ball knock of 54. He found good support in S. Hamphi, who made a composed 24 in 31 balls.   The target at less than run-a-ball, Blue Star maintained a good run rate, eventually crossing the target in 16.2 overs with 6 wickets to spare. The winning score read 117. Man of the Match Tejosel Yiethun made a swashbuckling 35 in 32 balls, which was studded with 5 boundaries. Roshan backed up well scoring 33 while Samik Das chipped in with 18 not out ensuring the team cross the target without jitters.   Sujay Tarafdar and Imliwati of Victoria were responsible for the 4 wickets Blue Star lost, taking 2 wickets each. Rakesh Paul was the highest wicket taker for Blue Star, who scalped 2 while giving away an economical 13 runs in the allotted 4 overs.   Earlier in the morning, Frontier Cricket Club of Tuensang was bowled out by Thau Sports Academy (TSA) from Manipur for a paltry 25 in 8.5 overs chasing a target of 150. Frontier elected to field but could not make much of a dent in the TSA batting line up, managing to take only 4 wickets and giving away 149 in the regulation 20 overs. Mintu, Sultan and Gelson stitched together the innings for TSA, the three scoring 44, 30 and 30, respectively. Sultan was Man of the Match for his score of 30 and taking 2 wickets.   The third match was also another unsuccessful run chase. King Bird Tiger, chasing a formidable target posted by BMS Darbar, batted the entire 20 overs but could only muster 98 all out. Ravindra made a gritty 37 as wickets fell away at the other end.   BMS electing to bat scored 159 riding on a half century from Man of the Match Nadeem, 36 from Imran and 24 from Avneet. Nadeem also contributed with the ball taking 1 wicket.
