
Inaugurates preparation for centenary of Salesian Missions in Northeast India
Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): During the Salesian Provincials’ Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) General Assembly on February 27 at DBIDL, Dimapur, Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Regional Councilor for South Asia, Rome officially inaugurated the three-year preparation for the centenary of the Salesian Missions in Northeast India to be celebrated in 2022.
A press release from Jonas Kerketta sdb, Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur stated that those present on the occasion included Fr. G. Basanes, General Councilor for the Salesian Missions, Rome, all the Provincial Superiors of the 11 Salesian Provinces in India and Sri Lanka, their delegates, and assembly of youth.
Fr CC Jose, Rector of Don Bosco College, Itanagar, and overseer of the Centenary Celebrations in 2022, highlighted the importance of the preparatory years. There are three themes which will form part of all the preparatory activities: 2019- Evangelization and Catechetics, 2020: Youth Ministry, and 2021: Salesian Spirituality.
Fr. Kuruvachira Jose, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Dimapur, in his welcome address, presented a brief history of the Province of Dimapur, which came into being in 1982 and comprises the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Upper Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
Fr. Maria A Kanaga, before launching the Preparatory Years praised the zeal and hard work of the pioneer Salesians and their successors which have resulted in the creation of three Salesian Provinces in Northeast India: Dimapur, Guwahati and Shillong.
The inaugural programme was interspersed with items such as hoisting of the centenary flag by Fr. G. Basanes, Hindi prayer dance, Chakhesang dance, Centenary Anthem among others.
